A Bit About Us at Prestige Leather

George and I were both introduced to miniatures about 16 years ago by my sisters, Joanne Dewane and Elaine Lancour, who had worked with and loved miniatures for many years.

I’ve been doing leatherwork for over 35 years and George nearly as long.

We sold miniatures for the first time at a Spring Fling show in Chicago about 15 years ago and enjoyed it so much that we just kept on and on. Have always worked to improve techniques and continue to hopefully make each piece better than the last.

We both belong to the Lone Star Leathercrafters Guild in Fort Worth, Texas and to the International Federation of Leather Guilds, to CIMTA, NAME and IGMA. I am also an Artisan and Fellow in IGMA.

Both of us are originally “Yoopers” from Escanaba in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We moved to Texas in 1985 when the company we worked for closed down. Now living in Arlington, TX.

Leatherwork and miniatures take up most of our time although George also has to find time to go to work at American Airlines where he has worked since 1988.

Our workroom is a converted garage which is barely large enough to hold everything we need to make all our minis. We each have our own workspace and our own tools although we will share if necessary. In our business, Prestige Leather, we both have specific pieces that we usually make, but we can pretty much do each other’s job when necessary.

I hope you enjoy our site as we keep adding to it.

Best Wishes,
Shirley & George
